Just a bit of info about where I'm coming from as a teacher. Contact me if you have any questions.
I've spent the last 5 years working with students for whom English is a second (or third, or fourth..) language. In 2015, I completed my certificate for EAL in the Mainstream Classroom, granted by Seton Hall University and International Schools Services as part of the World Language Initiative. This experience has strengthened my belief in the importance of language for all students learning math.
I work in a one-to-one laptop environment, and make extensive use of technology in my instruction.
I began teaching my first IB class in 2015 (combined Standard and Higher Level Mathematics), and am looking forward to those students finishing out the Diploma Programme in 2017. I've completed Category 1 and Category 3 (Focus on Internal Assessment) workshops, and have enjoyed learning this new (to me) program and approach while my students learn math.
I enjoy opportunities to get to know students outside of the classroom setting.
Since 2013, I've planned and chaperoned Week Without Walls trips for secondary students, visiting various locations in China to participate in service, cultural, and adventure activities.
My partner and I run an after school Garden Club, where students raise their own money, build their own furniture, and make their own plans for an outdoor space at our school.
In the past, I have also run activities involving building computers.
